The Dudley Orchestra invites you to join us for our performance of Johannes Brahms’ final work for orchestra, the Double Concerto in A minor, and for a bookending group of Gustav Mahler’s compositions: songs drawn from the early Des Knaben Wunderhorn cycle, and the Adagio from the incomplete 10th Symphony. Our featured soloists are violinist Jennifer Hsiao, cellist Mikiko Fujiwara, and soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbon.

The Dudley Orchestra is thrilled to invite you to our spring program. Made up of Béla Bartók's Divertimento for String Orchestra, and Anton Bruckner's Symphony no. 9, the program presents two highly contrasting late works from their respective composers. Following the vital, albeit melancholic transparency and energy of the Bartók, the incomplete final symphony of Bruckner unfolds into one of the most expansive and moving musical leave-takings in the nineteenth century literature.

Included on the program is Claude Debussy’s Rondes de Printemps, one of the great modernist’s final statements in the orchestral medium, the effulgent Piano Concerto no. 23 in A major of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with soloist Daniel Walden, and Robert Schumann’s buoyant Symphony no. 1 in Bb major - a work understood by the composer to be a poetic evocation of spring’s coming.

Each semester The Dudley Orchestra welcomes musicians from The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, other Harvard schools, and the greater Boston community to audition - meetings for the 2016 fall semester being held between the 27th of August and the 4th of September.
