Language Tables Mixer
Want to practice a foreign language with a group of your peers? Join one of the GSAS Language Tables! 

Join us at Dudley House this Wednesday, October 17 to sign up for a table, meet the table leaders, and mingle with other foreign-language speakers and learners over beer, wine and snacks.

If a Language Table doesn't exist for the language you are interested in practicing, you can get one started! Light refreshments will be provided.

Cities and Big Data

The first Senior Common Room Dinner of the academic year is on Monday, October 15! Senior Common Room Dinners are FREE for all Dudley Members, and feature a presentation by an established academic over dinner and drinks. 

At our first dinner of the season, MIT Professor and Senseable Cities Lab research scientist Fabio Duarte will present his pioneering work on big data and digital technologies for urban planning and design.

There will be a reception at 5:30 pm, and dinner begins at 6:00 pm. 

Swing by the Dudley House main office (3rd floor) to pick up your free ticket.

One of Dudley's most popular public service events is coming up - Habitat for Humanity!

Email dudleypublicservice@gmail.com to reserve your spot. Sign-ups are limited, so act now!

The Deets: October 20, 2018, 7:45am-4pm. Meet @ Dudley House. WE provide the transportation, equipment and logistics! YOU provide enthusiasm!
For dress, you need to wear close-toed shoes and clothes that you would not mind getting dirty, though longer pants are generally preferred. In total, the event will run from approximately 7:45am-4:00pm, including transportation. So please be prepared to mark an entire day on your calendar if you decide to come.

K-Pop, or South Korean pop music, is a genre that has expanded and evolved throughout the decades. It has been influenced by traditional Korean music, Western pop, Japanese pop, jazz, rock, R&B, Latin, classical, and more! Often, K-Pop artists and idols dance choreography and promote a captivating music video to accompany their songs. K-Pop's charm has made it popular in not just South Korea, but all over the world. Whether you're a fan or have just heard about K-Pop for the first time, you are absolutely welcome to come join us Tuesday nights! We'll explore South Korean pop culture, play some throwback songs, make new friends, and most importantly-- have fun dancing!

The Mummy at the Brattle Theatre

Get into the Halloween spirit as Dudley watches the 1932 classic, The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff, in the Brattle Theatre.

This collaborative event between Harvard Outings & Innings and the Harvard Semitic Museum brings together an evening of ancient history and classic film.

$7 tickets for the film (and special introduction) are available to Dudley house members and a guest from the 3rd floor of Dudley.  Spots on the guided tour of the museum are limited and require a separate RSVP directly to the Semitic Museum.

For people who reserved spots on the tour, we'll depart Dudley at 4:45pm to head to the museum together.  We'll reconvene with the rest of the group at the Brattle Theatre at 6:00pm for an introduction to the film by Egyptologist and Director of the Semitic Museum, Dr. Peter Der Manuelian.

HUPD Self Defense Class

Harvard is located in an urban setting and faces the safety and security issues found in any other city. The Harvard University Police Department is offering a self defense course to all Harvard affiliates to teach basic safety awareness principles and self-defense techniques.

We promise that you'll learn a lot, while having fun, in this 4-hour session with our HUPD Self-Defense partner!

Come and join us to make October 20th a memorable Saturday by building a house for a family in need! The Dudley House build team will join Harvard Habitat for Humanity to help a local family who wish to become independent homeowners.

Join Dudley Food Literacy at Allandale Farm, where the owners of the farm will present, with Chef Irene Li of Mei Mei, a tour and conversation about the relationship between growers and chefs to make farm-to-table seasonal cuisine!

We'll share rides to Allandale Farm from Dudley @ 10:30, spend an hour touring the farm and talking with Allandale Farmers and Chef Li, spend some time with a hands-on-activity and demonstration, and leave just enough time to purchase some delicious selections from the Allandale greenhouse and farm stand before heading back to campus.

The Harvard Square Churches Meal Program operates a community supper each Thursday evening at Christ Church Cambridge. Their mission is to provide a nutritious meal in a hospitable environment to anyone who needs a meal. 

We will convene as a group outside of Dudley House and walk 2 minutes to Christ Church, where we will receive an overview of the Meal Program before helping serve dinner from 5-7pm.

We'll depart from Dudley at 5:30 pm to arrive in the North End in time for our private 6:30 pm tour.

Dudley will be hosting the second edition of its Beer Festival, featuring Aeronaut Brewing Co., Bent Water Brewing Co. and Bantam Cider Company. Tickets are $10 and open to Dudley House members and 2 guests and can be purchased from the third floor of Dudley House or at the door. The first 50 present at the event will receive customized Dudley tasting glasses. Please bring a Harvard ID and a 21+ ID to the door. We will have lively music, entertaining games, excellent snacks, great non-alcoholic beverages, refreshing beer and generally a really good time!
